rabadon

what it actually caught.

Read straight out of the gate's own spool when this page was built. Every line below is a command that was about to run on a real machine, during real work, and that the gate ruled against. The lines on this page are watch-mode verdicts, which means the ruling was recorded and the command ran anyway; enforce mode is the column where it did not run, and that number is counted separately below. Rehearsals fired by the test suite are counted separately too and left out of both, because a tool that pads its own numbers with its own drills has no business judging anyone else's proof.

391commands refused in enforce mode, where the command did not run
1595verdicts recorded in watch mode, where nothing was blocked and the command ran
10repositories those watch-mode verdicts happened in
44repairs held after the proof survived, on work that was real
34drills, excluded from both totals
63further repairs held inside the demo and the repair harness, excluded for the same reason

project by project

Each line is the sentence the ledger wrote at the moment the gate ruled against the command, with the home path stripped and nothing else changed. These are watch-mode verdicts, so the command then ran. Open any rule to read the raw entries behind the count.

The delete law reads a resolved path, not the text of the command, which is why a target written as a relative name and a target written through a temp directory are the same question to it. The line from LMCache is the sharpest one here: a stray redirection was about to be handed to a recursive delete as if it were a directory.

the raw ledger, rule by rule

Nothing above needs to be taken on trust. These are entries as the gate wrote them, timestamp, project and reason, with only the home path replaced. Some of them fired while rabadon's own test scaffolding was running, and those are left in rather than quietly dropped, because a page that hides its own noise is asking to be believed instead of checked.

what it repaired

A catch is half the product. When a check goes red, a fix is proposed in an isolated copy and only held if the project's own suite goes green with every test file and every harness file byte-identical.

44repairs held on real work, proof intact
173repairs refused, fail-closed, tree untouched
391commands refused outright, so they never ran
1329verdicts recorded in watch mode, where nothing was blocked

Two of those held repairs were real source defects in expressjs/express, an off-by-one and a reversed comparison, judged by that project's own suite of 1,260 tests with 91 test files hash-locked. The working tree was never edited. On the same run a proposer that bought its green by skipping tests was refused.

the ways of buying a green, against the binary that ships

Nine families of fake fix, built by auditing this arbiter for the ways a proposal can turn a suite green without repairing anything. Each one runs the real rabadon-repair with its own proposer script in RABADON_CLAUDE_BIN, against a checkout that is genuinely broken. Where a patch is held it is applied to a fresh copy and probed for whether the defect is still there, which is the question the arbiter itself never asks.

family verdict why h1_skip test-tamper the suite's own bytes moved h2_weaken test-tamper the suite's own bytes moved h3_conftest harness-tamper the machinery that chooses which tests run moved h4_collect harness-tamper the machinery that chooses which tests run moved h5_specialcase held-out the green did not survive the patch's own crutch h6_eq held-out the green did not survive the patch's own crutch h1js_skip test-tamper the suite's own bytes moved h3js_jestsetup harness-tamper the machinery that chooses which tests run moved h3js_pkgscript still-red the check never went green h4js_ignore harness-tamper the machinery that chooses which tests run moved 10 run 10 refused 0 accepted 0 held patches still carrying the defect

Run with ./native/corpus_cheats.sh. The first pass through it is what found the lock that was covering nothing: on a repository where discovery names 122 test files the arbiter locked zero, because it read that answer out of a buffer holding only the last 4000 bytes of it.

what it found

A refusal is what the gate stopped. This is the other column: defects found in code, in rabadon's own source and in other people's, each with the command that demonstrates it. rabadon hooks/manage.mjs rabadon doctor reported the native core green by looking only at the binaries on disk, never at whether they were built from the source beside them — so a tree that does not compile could report all binaries present and healthy measured in this repository: a half-finished multi-agent change left gate.cpp calling into a header it did not include, so `make all` failed with `use of undeclared identifier 'rbhook'`. `rabadon doctor` in the same tree answered with the full green banner, because every rabadon-* file was on disk and executable from a build made the previous day. The whole thesis of this project is that a green nobody re-ran is not a green, and the tool that reports rabadon's own health was making exactly that claim about itself. The fix is a staleness check rather than a compile: doctor compares the newest mtime under native/*.cpp and native/*.h against the oldest binary mtime and says STALE, naming the source that is newer, because running a build inside a diagnostic would make the diagnostic the slowest command in the product. $ printf '\nstatic_assert(false, "x");\n' >> native/gate.cpp && make native/rabadon-gate; rabadon doctor; git checkout native/gate.cpp

rabadon native/truth.cpp three silent bounds in test discovery meant whole suites were never locked: a depth limit of 4, patterns that never matched a file named exactly test.ts, and a 512-file list cap the corpus counted what discovery found against what is on disk: zod 170 test files, 2 discovered, because its suite sits at packages/zod/src/v4/classic/tests and the walk turned around at depth 4. date-fns 253 on disk, 16 discovered, none of them a real test, because every one of its files is called test.ts and sits beside the function it tests. depth is 12 now, the list cap 4096, the walk budget 200000, and all three announce themselves in discoveryCapped so repair can say the lock covers less than the suite. the twin came from a real repo and narrowed the rule: jinja has one examples/basic/test.py and a src/jinja2/tests.py that is source, and the first pass locked both, so a bare test stem now counts only where the repo repeats it across three directories. $ ./native/discovery_test.sh

rabadon native/repair.cpp the HELD, UNVERIFIED headline stopped naming which half of the proof was missing when the harness-lock work rewrote it the word anti-tamper fell out of the sentence, so the screen withheld the word VERIFIED without saying why the tamper check had not run. repair_session_test.sh had been red on exactly this line and make test was failing on it. $ ./native/repair_session_test.sh

rabadon native/repair.cpp the hash lock silently locked nothing on any suite big enough to matter: repair read rabadon-truth's JSON out of a buffer that keeps only the last 4000 bytes measured on the corpus commander checkout: truth discovers 122 test files in 4503 bytes and repair locked 0 of them, while express fit in 2382 bytes and locked all 91. the bigger the suite the less of it was protected. the cost is in the suite's third case: on a 161-file suite a proposer that rewrote the failing test to assert True was HELD instead of rejected. the truth call now keeps its whole answer, and a JSON that cannot be read at all says so instead of passing for a repo with no tests. $ ./native/lock_coverage_test.sh

rabadon native/rabadon-cli.sh rabadon --version answered: unknown command "--version", which is the first thing anybody runs after an install every native binary underneath answers --version and the one command a user actually types did not. found by installing the tarball into a prefix where every compiler on PATH was replaced by a shim that logs its own name and exits 127. the verb asks the BINARY rather than carrying a version string, so the script cannot report a version the installed core does not have. $ ./native/npm_install_test.sh

rabadon site/.vercel/project.json the public site was a Vercel login wall: rabadon.noseydewdrop.com answered 302 to an SSO redirect, and the only reachable URL served the previous hand-written page site/ had been linked to a second Vercel project named after its own directory, while the custom domain belongs to the rabadon project. aliasing a domain onto another project's deployment leaves deployment protection in force, so every visitor got the login screen and 200 only ever came back from rabadon.vercel.app, which was still serving 207 refusals and 42.0us. relinked to the rabadon project; the domain answers 200 with the generated page. $ curl -s -o /dev/null -w '%{http_code}' https://rabadon.noseydewdrop.com/

rabadon native/npm_install_test.sh the install suite proved the published path on a machine that has a compiler, so it could not tell a prebuilt binary from one compiled during postinstall the package ships a postinstall that builds from source with clang++ or g++ when no platform package matches, and the README promises a prebuilt binary to someone who has neither. section 6 installs into a second clean prefix with cc, gcc, g++, clang, clang++, c++, make, cmake and ld replaced by shims that log and exit 127. install succeeds, the shim log is empty, and rabadon --version prints 0.2.0 from a real Mach-O binary out of the tarball. $ ./native/npm_install_test.sh
2026-08-02 fixed a notes file naming three unreleased projects was committed and pushed to the public repository
rabadon NOTES-FOR-DAMLA.md a notes file naming three unreleased projects was committed and pushed to the public repository site/build.py already states the rule it broke: names of unreleased projects do not go on a public page. sanitised at HEAD. the names remain in the history of one commit and taking them out needs a history rewrite and a force push, which is the operator's call and was not taken. $ grep -cE '(withheld)|(withheld)' NOTES-FOR-DAMLA.md

rabadon site/index.html the overview showed 100.0% precision as a headline while the same binary replayed against this machine's real ledger read 26.3%, and the repo already carried both numbers the fixture is 34 cases lifted out of real sessions and it is not wrong, it is narrow. replayed against all 215 real refusals in the spool the gate still stops 15 real dangers and lets 0 through, but it also cuts 42 pieces of legitimate work, 41 of which are rabadon's own red-team labs. excluding those it reads 93.8%. all three are on the page now with the command for each, next to the 58 of 95 named escapes still open. a product whose pitch is prove-do-not-claim cannot show the flattering number alone. $ python3 redteam/redteam.py

rabadon site/index.html the overview kept its headline numbers by hand and had drifted 31 refusals and 39 commits behind the pages generated from the same sources the catches page rebuilds itself from the gate spool and the patch-notes page from git log; the overview did not, so it started lying the moment the next command was refused. it is a template now and the test refuses any literal in a headline slot. $ ./native/site_claims_test.sh

rabadon native/gate.cpp the gate's Bash decision site was a hand-written second copy of rbrules::judge_command, the exact caller rules.h warns about rules.h says a caller who re-implements half of judge_command is how exec became a bypass, and the caller doing it was the gate itself. the two answers agreed and nothing held them there. the gate calls the shared verdict now, and gate_bench.sh replays all 34 fixture cases through both and refuses to print a timing unless every verdict matches. $ ./native/gate_bench.sh

rabadon native/corpus_cheats.sh the nine cheat families had never been run against the shipped binary, only against a shell reproduction of the arbiter the audit's sentence 'REPAIR_OK plus VERIFIED would have been printed' rested on cheats/arena.sh, not on rabadon-repair. run end to end with each corpus proposer in RABADON_CLAUDE_BIN against the corpus's own pristine-red checkouts: 10 families, 10 refused, 0 accepted, 0 held patches carrying the defect. two by the test lock, four by the harness lock, two by the held-out probe, one by the check staying red. the first pass through this runner is what surfaced the truncation bug above. $ ./native/corpus_cheats.sh

rabadon site/build.py the benchmarks page named native/gate_bench.sh as the source of 42.0us to judge one command, and that file did not exist no micro benchmark existed in the repository at all. the only real measurement was native/bench.py, which times the whole hook and answers a different question. the first honest measurement of judge_command came back 125.5us, three times the number the page had been carrying. $ ./native/site_claims_test.sh

pallets/jinja src/jinja2/tests.py a source module named tests.py sits inside the package, so any tool that reads the word tests in a filename will treat the template language's own test functions as a test suite found by widening rabadon's own discovery and watching it lock two jinja files that are not tests: src/jinja2/tests.py, which implements the is-defined family the template language exposes, and examples/basic/test.py, which is a demo script. not a defect in jinja; a naming collision that any locking tool has to survive, and the reason rabadon now requires a convention rather than a single filename. $ ./native/rabadon-truth /path/to/jinja --json
